FZI Live
bitkom AI & Data Summit
Europe's major conference on the latest trends in data and Artificial Intelligence
In September, the FZI will participate as a partner in Europe’s leading conference on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data in companies with a program contribution and a booth.
This summit offers the opportunity to discover best practices and exchange ideas with high-ranking experts, decision-makers, and innovation leaders from industry, politics, and science. The bitkom AI & Data Summit will take place at the same time and place as the Quantum Summit, so a total of over 1,700 industry experts are expected at the double summit in Berlin.
Robert Habeck (Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action), Dr. Volker Wissing (Federal Minister for Digital and Transport) and Agnes Heftberger (CVP & CEO Microsoft Germany) have also been announced as highlight speakers at the AI & Data Summit.

FZI Booth
The FZI booth will be located near the Alan Turing Stage, where the lecture of our FZI employee Martin Trat will also take place. The topic at the booth will be the FZI’s research into advancing the robustness of AI and preventing its failure.
A demonstrator of applied AI will also be shown on site: This clearly illustrates how an AI’s perception of its surroundings in a traffic scenario works excellently during the day, but reaches its limits at night.
Janek Bender, Avik Bhatnagar, Sebastian Reiter und Martin Trat will be available as contact persons at the FZI booth.
Agenda on September 26, 2024
10:40 - 11:00 a.m.:
Strengthening the Long-Term Robustness of Artificial Intelligence: A Nature-Inspired Solution Sustaining Value Network Resilience
Martin Trat
Topic of the presentation: Developing a powerful model of AI is difficult – using it productively is even more difficult: Among many other aspects, the application conditions and the associated data inevitably change. Without appropriate maintenance strategies, the robustness of the model is at stake. With the increasing prevalence of AI in productive use and the lack of well-thought-out strategies, this serious problem has become increasingly pervasive.
In the presentation, Martin Trat will outline possible solutions for strengthening AI robustness and demonstrate these using a real use case from industrial research. In this practical context, AI is used to predict the delivery time of commercial products, from the time of order to the arrival at the destination. The advantages of better predictions are manifold and enable, among other things, more sustainable delivery and storage concepts and increase the predictability of production and ordering.
Location: Alan Turing Stage
Topic: Manufacturing & Logistics
Target groups: IT experts, system integrators, SME management experts, data scientists, machine learning engineers
13:00 - 13:40:
Manufacturing & Logistics Open Panel & Meet the Speaker
Martin Trat and others
Topic of the presentation: At this Open Panel & Meet the Speaker session, we reunite all speakers from the Manufacturing & Logistics block to re-engage in a discussion and exchange with the visitors. The audience will have the opportunity to pose questions and make comments as part of the onstage dialogue.

Contributing Initiatives
The FZI’s participation in the bitkom AI & Data Summit would not be possible without the support and work of the two initiatives Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Klima.Neutral.Digital (SME Digital Center Climate.Neutral.Digital) and European Digital Innovation Hub applied Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity (EDIH-AICS), which could not be imagined without the topic of applied AI.
Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Klima.Neutral.Digital – actively tackling the challenges of climate change and using them as an opportunity for the German economy
The Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Klima.Neutral.Digital supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and craft businesses on their way to climate neutrality: with initial information, quick checks, and digitalization projects. Our climate coaches also help companies to develop a feasible sustainability strategy and identify the first simple options for implementing it. The support is free of charge for SMEs and craft businesses.
EDIH-AICS – making the vision of safe, sustainable, and European sovereign Artificial Intelligence (AI) a reality in science and business
With this aim, the European Digital Innovation Hub applied Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity (EDIH-AICS) offers comprehensive services to support national and European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups, and public sector organizations in the following application areas: production (AI engineering), mobility (future mobility), energy (zero emission), trade/services (sustainable supply chains/business models), and public administration (innovation processes & digital citizen participation).
