Fabian Kern studied Information Management at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and completed his master's degree in 2013. His focus was on the development of secure and component-based software systems, as well as the design of electronic markets. In the context of his master's thesis "Inverter Communication and Solar Power Forecasting," methods for local and individual generation forecasting of photovoltaic systems were developed, implemented, and evaluated.

As a research assistant at the Institute for Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB) at KIT, Fabian Kern was responsible for the development and implementation of nuKIT.

Since October 2018, Fabian Kern has been department head in the research division Intelligent Systems and Production Engineering (ISPE). Prior to that, he had been working as a research assistant in the ISPE department since 2013. During this time, his main focus was on identifying and harnessing electrical flexibility in commercial and industrial environments, as well as intelligent charging control of electric vehicles.
