Boris Amberg studied business informatics at the University of Paderborn. He finished his studies in 2007 with a degree in business informatics. In 2014, he received his PhD from the University of Paderborn on the topic of "Resource scheduling in public transport: similarity aspects in the optimization across timetables".

After working as a research assistant at the Decision Support & Operations Research Lab of the University of Paderborn and at the Chair of Information Systems at Freie Universität Berlin, Boris Amberg has been working at the FZI Research Center for Information Technology since 2014.

He is particularly interested in the development of decision support systems for the planning and control of logistics processes using mathematical optimization methods.
