Dr. Andreas Abecker Strengthens Board of the FZI Friends’ Association

New momentum for our alumni network and fresh ideas for the FZI Friends’ Association

At this year’s general meeting, Dr. Andreas Abecker was unanimously elected to the board. He will take on his chairmanship in the association alongside Oliver Winzenried, Dr. habil. Christian Förster, and Dr. Klaus Wiegand.

At the general meeting of the FZI Friends’ Association on October 16, Dr. Andreas Abecker was unanimously elected to the association’s Board of Directors. The main focus of his honorary commitment is a stronger integration of alumnae and alumni into the FZI Friends’ Association for a more dynamic network and to establish more sustainable contacts with the alumni’s companies and organizations.

Andreas Abecker studied computer science and economics at the University of Kaiserslautern. He worked at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) for many years before heading the FZI’s Knowledge Management department in the Information Process Engineering (IPE) research division from 2003 to 2011.

Since then, he has contributed his expertise in data management and analysis in environmental informatics and related fields to the FZI spin-off and long-standing FZI Friends’ Association member Disy Informationssysteme GmbH. As the company’s Head of Research & Innovation Management, Dr. Andreas Abecker has always been closely connected with the FZI through funded joint research projects on technologies such as Business & Location Intelligence, Big Geo Data, or Explainable AI. Jointly with the FZI, he is exploring ideas for practical application in administrative digitalization, smart cities, and more.
