Smart East Demo Day on June 23

Experience the Karlsruhe real lab for smart climate-friendly neighborhoods on site and learn from each other.

Research focus: Climate Action Innovation

Smart East brings the energy revolution to the city. In the Smart East real laboratory, an existing urban neighborhood in the east of Karlsruhe is being transformed into a smart neighborhood with a climate-friendly energy supply. To this end, the existing buildings are being digitized with smart meters and networked in a neighborhood energy management system. In parallel, photovoltaic power generation is being expanded and supplemented with an intelligent charging infrastructure to link the electricity, heating, cooling and mobility sectors. With tenant electricity and smart charging, the municipal utility is testing new business models for climate-friendly neighborhood energy supply via its subsidiary BES (Badische Energie-Servicegesellschaft). On June 23, the project partners will present the events of the last 12 months: progress, obstacles, setbacks and successes. During the workshop, interested parties can learn about the experiences firsthand and discuss questions with the experts.

Look behind the scenes and share expertise

With the four fields of action climate protection, digitalization, business models and participation, Smart East sets important framework conditions for a successful energy revolution in the city. Owners, real estate and plant operators (Hoepfner Bräu), tenants of iWerkx, among others, and local energy suppliers (Stadtwerke Karlsruhe and BES) provide a look behind the scenes and share their expertise and experiences.

On June 23, 2023, interested parties are invited to gain exciting insights into the transformation of Smart East from the project partners Seven2one, InnoCharge, FZI and KIT at the Smart Production Park Karlsruhe from 10:00 to 14:00.
