Focusing through current main points of research
With the aim of developing innovative applications for business and society at the highest international level, the FZI has set research priorities to focus its strategic activities and project initiatives.
The research focuses are the result of an ongoing dialogue with business, science and society, as well as an analysis of unique selling points and core competencies offered by the FZI.
In 2024, the FZI is aligning its research activities along five focus areas.
Applied Artificial Intelligence
In this research focus, the FZI prioritizes the topics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as well as human and AI engineering. In addition, the FZI deals with questions on dedicated AI hardware and predictive AI.
Intelligent Transportation Systems and Logistics
Intelligent solutions for the transportation of people and goods represent a focus topic of FZI’s application research. Particular attention is paid to public transport, the application of artificial intelligence, the further development of driving functions and their safeguarding, and open source & open data.
Climate Action Innovation
The research focus Climate Action Innovation aims to actively promote climate protection and create sustainable solutions in energy, mobility, production, and supply and disposal via IT innovations. Security aspects of the solutions are considered from the very onset.
Safety, Security and Law
The FZI focuses in this research area on the topics of resilience for critical infrastructures, managing security, legal tech and (post-)quantum cryptography, and also deals with the mutual influence of artificial intelligence on safety and security.
Digital Democracy and Participation
In the Digital Democracy and Participation research focus the spotlight is on inclusive, modern and democratic forms of digital participation as well as the opportunities and challenges of digital democracy.
