People analytics applications are increasingly being used in various aspects of human resource management. These enable the automated analysis of HR data, combining it with business or external data, thereby promising to optimize work-related decisions, such as by providing information about employees’ performance and potential. Because of the increased remote work as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, these applications are becoming even more important by empowering employers with supervisory capabilities despite physical distance. Relevant increasing work decentralization, possibilities for self-organization and an accompanying strengthening of employee autonomy are discussed, in addition to the application’s imminent surveillance potential.
The use of automated applications in human resource management presents challenges for businesses. Aside from technical and legal issues, ethical and social concerns stand out. A multi-method approach is used to examine two specific questions using qualitative and quantitative methods:
In addition to conducting workshops and transferring knowledge to society, the FZI is largely responsible for quantitative studies to look into the acceptance and perception of people analytics applications, particularly regarding the perceived intrusion into employees’ privacy. Possible distinctions between remote and face-to-face work usage contexts are also considered.
In this research focus, the FZI concentrates on practical research into the key technology of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Innovative AI solutions are developed and transferred to application areas such as mobility, robotics, healthcare technology, logistics, production, and supply and disposal on behalf of our partners and customers.
In this research focus, the FZI investigates and conveys innovative concepts, methods for protecting IT systems, and legal framework conditions to enable secure digitalization.
