The FZI develops ROS driver for Universal Robots

The demands on future vehicles are high – safety and reliability are top priorities. Even if the complexity of vehicle systems increases as a result of automation and electrification, the probability of failure must not increase under any circumstances. In order to successfully industrialize new electronic systems for autonomous electric driving, the SmartLoad consortium is researching new methods in the SmartLoad project to ensure the reliable operation of highly automated electrified vehicles. The researched architectures and methods will be evaluated using a demonstrator vehicle as well as reference applications from the fields of interurban private transport, commercial vehicles and local public transit. The project idea was developed in the Cluster Electric Mobility South-West research network.
The aim of the project is to enable robust vehicle operation in the event of component failure. Intelligent, software-controlled alternative strategies are intended to efficiently replace n- redundant designs – especially of the electric drive train components.
For the FZI, the focus is on the methodology for the design of robust software systems as well as the runtime monitoring of the components of the highly automated driving functions.
Smart solutions for the transportation of people and goods are a focus of FZI research to shape mobility in the future. To this end, the FZI develops integrated mobility systems – from vehicle automation and the application of AI in traffic systems to urban mobility and logistics.
