The FZI develops ROS driver for Universal Robots

Automated, connected vehicles offer great potential for reducing the number of accidents and increasing occupant protection. At the same time, intelligent driving strategies can make optimum use of the traffic infrastructure and thus increase efficiency in road traffic. For urban areas, this applies in particular to automated vehicles of SAE levels 4 and 5 (fully automated driving and autonomous driving). Without valid test procedures, however, these cannot be deployed – even if their development has reached everyday suitability.
SetLevel4to5 therefore aims to advance the simulation-based development and testing of these vehicles in order to create a basis for verification and validation as well as subsequent release and approval. This will accelerate the overall development process in a cost-effective manner and secure the technological leadership of German companies.
One target of the FZI in the project is on scenario description and definition for simulative validation with a focus on an exchangeable standardized scenario format. In addition, realistic sensor models for radars as well as driver models for involved road users are being developed. Moreover, the FZI provides the automated driving function, which is used in the project as a system under test.
Smart solutions for the transportation of people and goods are a focus of FZI research to shape mobility in the future. To this end, the FZI develops integrated mobility systems – from vehicle automation and the application of AI in traffic systems to urban mobility and logistics.
