Career
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Wilhelm Stork graduated in physics with a focus on optics and digital image processing at the University of Munich and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He then worked at the Chair of Applied Optics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg on optical communication networks; during this time, he completed his doctorate. For several years, Wilhelm Stork was responsible for technology transfer in the Microsystems Technology Division at the institute in Erlangen. In 1993, he went to the Karlsruhe University and worked at the Institute for Information Processing Technologiesy (ITIV). There he took over the establishment and management of the Microsystems Technology and Optics-Working Group. Wilhelm Stork is author and co-author of numerous publications focusing on optoelectronic sensing in medicine and technology, design methods and computational tools for micro-optical systems and components.
At the FZI, his focus is on e-health and ambient assisted living (AAL). A new topic area at the FZI is (wireless) sensor networks and optical sensor technology for industrial automation.
