IT Security Scene of Karlsruhe Meets in "Wunderland"

IT Security Behind the Mirrors

Around 200 experts came together this Thursday for the event “IT-Sicherheit hinter den Spiegeln” (IT Security Behind the Mirrors). The focus was on networking, providing information, and exchanging views on the latest trends and challenges in the IT security industry. The Karlsruhe region once again showcased its role as an important innovation driver and a central IT security location in Germany.

A special highlight was the presentation “Voice Cloning” by Maximilian Stauss and Markus Schöne, with support from the audience. The two experts gave an impressive demonstration of how swiftly and easily Artificial Intelligence can copy voices live and use them for manipulative purposes. “People are under attack. The IT technology itself is the minor problem,” emphasized Stauss, who clarified that social engineering is still a central weak point in many IT systems. This means securing identities is becoming an ever more important challenge when establishing trust.

After the presentation, participants had the chance to engage in intensive discussion and make new contacts. Various “theme islands” provided insights into current research projects and enabled a direct exchange with experts.

The event was accompanied by further workshops, such as the afternoon workshop “Automotive Cybersecurity”, which took place at the FZI. Here, around 20 participants exchanged views on future protection mechanisms for vehicles against hacking attacks.

The FZI would like to thank the partners KASTEL Security Research Labs, Karlsruher Sicherheitsinitiative (KA-IT-Si), karlsruhe.digital initiative together with the ANYMOS competence cluster, the European Digital Innovation Hub applied Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity (EDIH-AICS), the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Klima.Neutral.Digital, the de:hub Karlsruhe Artificial Intelligence, and the Transformations-Hub TASTE for their support in making the event possible and shaping its content.

Together, the partners sent out an impressive signal for the strength of the IT security region of Karlsruhe.
